Historical Society receives gift from Norseland
ST. PETER — It’s been nearly four months since a large crowd gathered in Norseland to celebrate that community’s Sesquicentennial, but the fun-filled weekend will not be forgotten.

Sesquicentennial Committee members gathered on Thursday in front of the former Norseland General Store to present Nicollet County Historical Society Director Ben Leonard with a check for $6,000 to the Society as a way of saying “thanks” for its help with the event.

“We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity and thoughtfulness of their gift,” Leonard said. “It will go a long way in helping us preserve and interpret even more Norseland area history, like the log cabin, originally from New Sweden Township and now at the Treaty Site, to our new central exhibit that honors the Norseland Store.

“The Historical Society felt honored to participate in the project. We were amazed at the sheer volume and quality of images that surfaced for the book.”

It was also announced at the event the Norseland Sesquicentennial calendar is now available for purchase. Anyone interested in buying a calendar can do so at Norseland Lutheran Church, Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Anthony Feed Service, Traverse des Sioux Garden Center and the Nicollet County Historical Society.

A DVD of the Sesquicentennial parade, which was produced by St. Peter Public Access, is also available for purchase. For more information on buying a DVD contact committee member Judy Hanson at oakview@hickorytech.net or by sending $10 to Hanson at 39384 403rd Avenue, St. Peter, MN 56082. Make checks payable to “Norseland 150”.

American Linden trees were presented to both the Norseland Lutheran and Scandian Grove Lutheran churches on behalf of the committee. Those trees have been planted on church grounds in recent weeks.
