Lourdes goes on 8-2 run over last two minutes of half to cut St. Peter lead to 22-21 at halftime. Eagles beat Saints defense for a layup right before buzzer sounds.
Saints get off to fast start, but Lourdes pressure on the backcourt in the last few minutes gets the Eagles back in the game.
Kuiper leads St. Peter with 10 points at half followed by Raymond with six and three others with two, including Brown. Melquist leads Lourdes with 10 with Hansen adding 7.
------------
Two free throws by Raymond are first Saints points in more than 3 minutes. Extends lead to 20-13.
------------
Lourdes slowly climbing back in with 7-0 run to cut margin to 18-11. Melquist becoming a force underneath basket scoring 8 of Eagles first 11 points.
Saints have been stuck on 18 for about three minutes. Lourdes in bonus at 7:30 mark.
-------------
Lourdes first basket comes with 12:59 left in half.
Still looking strong with 18-4 early advantage after Raymond's two free throws.
-------------
No signs of nerves for Saints as they open up 6-0 lead on Kuiper layup with 15:25 left in opening half. Lourdes cold to start game.
About only thing going bad early is Sidney Dirks picking up two quick fouls.
---------------
Good start... opening tip controlled by Saints and 25 seconds in St. Peter up 2-0.
--------------
Ten minutes before game time and the St. Peter faithful are showing up in full force -- far outnumbering the number of Lourdes crowd.
Judging from the media guide, Lourdes has a balanced attack led by 6'2" forward Laura Melquist who averages nearly 18 a game. In pregame, Melquist looks very athletic and moves well. Should be interesting to see how Saints try to defend her.
Saints'band sounds great inside the arena and a large student section is forming.
More to come.
