Wenner is winner in Ambassador event

Matt Borowy (far left), Krystal Pierce and Steven Wenner await the announcement of winners from Ambassadors Mike Riley and Mark Fitzenberger (right).
Steven Wenner was the grand prize winner at the annual St. Peter Ambassadors Dinner on Saturday night. See "Ambassadors Dinner" photo gallery along the right side of the Herald home page.

Wenner had the choice of a trip to New York valued at $3,000 or a $2,500 cash option prize. He opted for the cash.

He conferred with wife Peggy on how they might spend the money.

"We'll probably use some of it for my spring break trip (to Arizona) and our son's wedding (Matt)," Peggy said.

In a somewhat hushed tone, a smiling Steven thought out loud, "Or maybe I'll spend it on a pool table."

They both said they were pleased to have the new financial cushion to help with the wedding.

Krystal Pierce won the second prize of a $2,000 trip to New York, while Matt Borowy claimed the third prize $1,500 trip to New York. They both took the cash option.

Organizers said they were pleased with ticket sales and turnout for the New York, New York theme event at Johnson Hall on the Nicollet County Fairgrounds. Numbers were up from 2009.

Country Kitchen, Patrick's, Whiskey River and Kokomo's (Shoreland) provided the food.

An "amalgamation" of the Fabulous Flood Plain Four and the Blue Ox Jazz Babies performed. They had Bob Douglas on the clarinet, Ted Schreyer on the tuba, Rip Kirby on the banjo and Tim Robinson on the coronet.

Magician Kevin Hall roved through the crowd performing. He surprised Matt and Julie Thibodeau with a fire trick.
