Elaine Johnson, devoted mother, grandmother, & friend, passed away peacefully after a 3 yr battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Red Wing to Esther & Charles Peterson, attended Gustavus Adolphus College from ‘41-‘46 (study was interrupted by WWII) & earned a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. Married Eugene Johnson in ‘43 & lived in Richfield for 50+ years. Worked for many years as a Social Worker in the Minneapolis School System. Hobbies included international travel, sewing, gardening, aerobic exercising, knitting, writing poetry, hiking, baking & cooking. Remembered as a generous, supportive, loving, positive, thoughtful, conscientious, intelligent & energetic go-getter.
Survived by daughter Julie, son-in-law Lieuwe Kingma, grandchildren Scott and Lucy and daughter-in-law Karen.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene & her son Scott.
Services will be held on Friday, Nov 13 at the Cremation Society of MN at 7110 France Avenue S. in Edina. Visitation at 2:30, service 3-4 & reception 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
