‘St. Peter Nice’ emerges in detour routes
Email Print

The day that Hwy.169/Minnesota Avenue was shut down was the start of a transportation nightmare for those of us who travel that road day in and day out. Since construction has started motorists and residents along the detour have adjusted and are going on with their daily lives. One thing I have experienced that really shows something more than Minnesota nice – I will call it “St. Peter Nice” - is when during very heavy traffic times – around 5 p.m. and Sundays after church – the motorists heading down Jefferson Avenue have been letting motorists coming in from the north and south side streets (mainly 3rd and 4th) – into the flow of traffic. They don’t have to do this. On Sunday I could have been stuck waiting and waiting on 4th street to get onto Jefferson after my “quick” trip to Econofoods. But, no, a kind driver stopped and waved me in and I did not have to wait and wait.

This is how the residents of St. Peter adjust to an inconvenient situation. The next time I am on Jefferson and see someone waiting on one of the side streets to get in I will stop and let them in. Let’s keep paying the good deeds forward.
