St. Peter Police Officers Dave Arpin (far left) and Ryan Eberhart (second from right) were honored by their department and the city of St. Peter during Monday’s St. Peter City Council meeting. The two were honored for their heroics in saving the lives of several people in the Minnesota River during an June 20 incident by Riverside Park. St. Peter Police Chief Matt Peters (second from left) presented them with the Life Saving Awards while St. Peter Mayor Tim Strand (far right) also expressed the city’s gratitude for their efforts. Ashley Samora, an off-duty Le Sueur EMT who was camping in the area at the time of the incident and helped keep the people in the river afloat before Arpin and Eberhart arrived, was also recognized for her efforts.

It was an honor to be recognized for doing our job. Lonnie and Ray were heroes for going into the water as were Sam and Terry. Ashley kept everyone afloat and calm until we arrived. I found out Ashley can't swim but only tread water. Now that took an incredible amount of courage to do. The Good Lord was watching out for everybody on June 20th. Be safe, Dave
